Hobby Update: The Great Kingdoms and Masters of the Underearth

Image
Hello, everyone! In the last few days, I focused on finishing up my Great Kingdoms Warlord mounted on flying beast. After completing him, my Great Kingdoms army is effectively "done," barring potentially adding a sorcerer and mounted warriors (I'm not sold on the combat effectiveness or need for either, to be honest). Regardless, those are minis for another update! I'm particularly proud of how this guy turned out. I don't consider myself a sculptor and rarely have I attempted to sculpt so much myself, rather than using pre-existing bits (to see the sculpted parts isolated, take a look at this previous blog ). For the coloration, I looked to nature for inspiration. Seeing as the Teutonic knights's heraldry uses a black eagle as its charge, I figured I would use them as reference for the aquiline portion of my griffin. Heraldry of the Teutonic Order   Actual black eagles For the hind portions of the griffin, I wanted do keep ...

Welcome back! Tonight, I continued working on my Great Kingdoms warband, focusing on the flying beast that my warlord will be mounted on. Below are the steps I took.

After being away for a week, I'm back! Tonight, I mostly worked on finishing up my Great Kingdoms War Machine and Warlord mounted on flying beast. The flying beast has been a real challenge. I'm not a professional sculptor, but I'm pretty proud of the work I've done so far. I'm just using simple ProCreate, Vaseline, water, and some sculpting tools. Hopefully you all are as jazzed with how it's turning out as I am!

Hey guys, here's a quick update on some more minis for my Great Kingdoms! Tonight I got the paint done for my war machine and crew. I also finished my creatures, though they were finished earlier this week. Check them out!

Welcome back! Today I'm posting some hobby updates for one of my SAGA Age of Magic warband, The Great Kingdoms. I've been focusing on finishing this warband before returning to Lords of the Wild warband, which I've posted pictures of in earlier blogs. Tonight, I began basing my bipedal creatures, assembled a war machine, and started converting my griffin to act as a steed for my second warlord.

Welcome back for another game of SAGA Age of Magic. Today, I played an 8 pt game against my friend Matt. Matt's new to the game and hobby overall, but he's quickly learning how to roll the bones. Rather than complicate things via the Book of Battles, we chose to play a standard game of  Clash of Warlords . The Narrative: The Outlands are on fire. All along the horizon, columns of smoke herald the coming of unspeakable monstrosities. These are enemies without remorse, fear, or mercy. A cold, clammy dread seizes the heart of The Protectorate as wide eyed, blood soaked survivors spread tales of raids, massacres, and unearthly terror. Sworn to protect the meek, His Order of the Ebon Cross is roused and readied in the panoply of war. Prayers are spoken, oaths taken, and weapons anointed. Time is fleeting and the fate of the Outlands must be decided.  The Outlands are on fire. Below are our lists. THE GREAT KINGDOMS 8  pts Warlord -mounted: flying Sorcerer ...

Further updates on the pegasus knights! I spent a good portion of the day grinding on these guys and thankfully they are nearly done. Once the pumice on their bases dries overnight, I'll finish basing them with some Woodland Scenics Earth Undercoat, some drybrushing, and static grass. I can't wait to finally play my Great Kingdoms!

It's been a few busy days here, but here's a hobby update! So far, I've been grinding the warlord, lieutenant, paladins, hearthguard, and creatures from my Great Kingdoms (Age of Magic) warband. I started by combining parts from Mirliton Miniatures (riders and steeds) with wings from some Ral Partha pegasi. It took a bit of effort to get everything drilled, sanded, and glued, but I think it will be well worth it!

And...done! I'm glad these guys are finally ground out, 24 minis at once is no joke. Now, I've got 6 pts painted, effectively all of the infantry for my planned warband!

We're nearly there! 24 minis simultaneously is certainly punishing, but when they're all done at the same time, the effect is enormous. Tomorrow I'll finish adding pumice to the bases, use some earth tone wash on the base, add static grass, then seal with Testor's Dullcote.

Tonight, I finished the base coat for all 24 crossbowmen and got them inked. While they dry overnight, I'll dream of how to use them to the greatest tactical effect!
