Imperial Skies: Kaiserliche Marine

Hey guys, welcome back! Rather than continue my Gunpla grind, I took a slight diversion, ending up in the skies over Europe, circa 1914. Behold, the Kaiserliche Marine!

Gunpla Build: RG 22 Sinanju MSN-06S (1/144): Painting!

Hi everyone, welcome back! Here's an update on my enormous, scope-exploding, gundam build. I initially approached this project from the naive mindset of a relaxed hobbyist, but, of course, my own mental hangups have spun this project out of control. Rather than just some some clean painting and light weathering, I have gone the foolish route of edge highlights, washes, extreme highlights, shading, etc. I've even broken our non-provided decals because the provided stickers are the worst things I have ever worked with. Seriously, if you are going to paint your gundam, DO NOT use the provided stickers: they will never sit right, peel, pool ink, and are relentlessly glossy. Awful. Anyway, let's look at some pics.

Gunpla Build: RG 22 Sinanju MSN-06S (1/144): Leg Sub-assembly

Hey folks, welcome back! Here's an update on my Gunpla build, I forgot how long these things take to hobby. I've been approaching this kit from the most meticulous angle possible, i.e. cleaning each piece, then separately painting before re-assembling. As you can imagine, this process takes a bit longer than the good ol', "build it and paint it" method I normally use on my gaming miniatures. For what it's worth, I'm constantly struggling with whether I actually prefer this OCD-esque method of assembly, since so much of the Gunpla kit is obscured by other elements. Likewise, I don't really care about posability, since I think of these kits as more like statues than action figures. In the future, I will probably approach these kits with a more mixed philosophy (some parts separate, some parts posed and glued), but that's a problem for future me! Anyway, first things first, let's paint some parts. Once (almost) all the pieces of the leg sub...

Hey folks, welcome back! Today's blog post covers a new kit I'm working on, something that's a bit of a departure from my normal 15mm hobbying. I'm now elbows deep in a sweet Gunpla kit I picked up back in 2016 that's been patiently sitting in my hobby hoard. For the past 4 years I've been working exclusively on miniatures for gaming, whether Kings of War, Kingdom Death: Monster, SAGA, Gruntz, etc, etc. However, with a global pandemic going on, I've had fewer opportunities to game than normal, so I figured now might be a good time to work on something else. I've been debating how intensely I wanted to hobby this kit: just clean up and assembly, assembly and paneling, or assembly and the whole painting/decals/weathering shebang. Clearly I'm a perfectionist, so the whole shebang it is! With that in mind, I'm working on each sub assembly separately as I try to tackle this monstrosity of a kit. I'm trying to keep maximum posability wh...

Hobby Update: Lords of the Wild

Hello and welcome back to the final Lords of the Wild update (for now). I just finished the last model for my warband, a Forest Dragon! This dragon will be used as a Scourge (flying monster) in my warband,  providing me with a nice, mobile,  aggressive heavy-hitter.

Hello and welcome back! Today, I'll be showing off some newly finished minis for SAGA Age of Magic. This centaur lord and his retinue will represent a Warlord mounted on beast and unit of quadrupedal creatures, respectively. I'm not quite sure how often I'll use the warlord, as my current strategy revolves around a horse-mounted, nimble, We Obey  toting warlord, but having more options never hurts!

Hey everyone, welcome back! Apologies for my delayed posts, as you all can imagine, lots has been going on. Anyway, I managed to get some time to finally finish up my Elvish javelin Levy. Large units, like Levy, are rarely as fun to paint as imposing heroes, big baddies, gibbering monsters, and diabolical war machines, but the meat grinder demands flesh! These guys (and gals?) are meant to harry flanks, provide medium range missile support, and, frankly, generate SAGA dice (not everyone gets to be the star). Here's a close up of the unit leader, because he's glamorous.  Now that this unit has been completed, only two units remain in this warband! I'm debating whether to start my Scourge (a forest dragon!) or three points of Quadrupedal Creatures (centaurs, of course). If you've got an opinion, let me know! -Nick
